Zarf Jacket
The Zarf (ظرف) Jacket is a meticulously crafted lightweight, reversible jacket. This jacket is designed with drop shoulders, and a comfortable fit that tapers at the arms and waist.
Side one features patchwork with phulkari embroidery on the front panels and arms, and an ajrak trim on a base of handwoven khaddar and block-printed cotton. The back of this side is adorned by an intricately embroidered willow tree on plain khaddar. Side two incorporates the same block-print fabric along the trim, on an ajrak base.
Both Phulkari and Ajrak are centuries old crafts still practiced in Pakistan. Phulkari is an ancient craft of punjab whereas the Ajrak belong to the age old crafts of sindh . The word phulkari is derived from the word ‘phul’ in punjabi which means flower and kari means embroidery. The flowers along with geometric patterns are woven with silk threads on fabric.
Ajrak is traditional block printing done on natural dyed fabrics with ancient techniques where the patterns are carved on wooden blocks which are dipped in natural dyes and printed on the fabric.
Seen here paired with the Safar pant, the jacket is a unique, versatile item that can be paired with multiple cuts, textures, colors.
